It's hard to say in what order to read Elric of Melnibone Series. Novels were
written in 60's - 70's and since then published under different titles. Also
their contents differ - there are lots of short Elric stories gathered together.
General rules are:
- "Elric of Melnibone" is the first,
- "Stormbringer" is the last,
- "The Fortress of the Pearl", "Sailor on the Seas of Fate"
and "The Jade's Man Eyes" before "The Dreaming City"
- "Bane of the Black Sword" just after "Vanishing Tower"
- "Dreamthief's Daughter", as first volume of the new trilogy, afer
"Stormbringer".
The most popular reading order is:
1. "Elric of Melnibone"
2. "The Fortress of the Pearl"
3. "Sailor on the Seas of Fate"
4. "Dreaming City"
5. "Singing Citadel"
6. "Vanishing Tower"
7. "bane of the Black Sword"
8. "Strombringer"
However, it does say nothing about something called "While the Gods Laugh", "The Skrayling Tree", "Elric at the End of Time" or "Elric: The return to Melnibone".
I recommend sticking to these general rules above. Only Michael Moorcock may know in what order to read the series.
