Elric of Melnibone is one of the incarnations of the Champion Eternal - a warrior involved in never-ending battle between Forces of Chaos and Powers of Law. None of Eternal Champions is ever to know ordinary mortal cares and troubles, their little moments of joy and carelessness and finally rest in peaceful death.
Michael Moorcock has created other incarnations of Champion Eternal; each of them has his own series. There are four of them: Elric, Corum, Dorian Hawkmoon and John Daker, the proper Eternal Champion.
